Plus-Sized Models Get Laughed At By Toronto Fashion Week Audience

Geeeezus. As unenlightened as the U.S. fashion industry may sometimes be, at least I’ve never heard of New York fashion week audiences openly mocking plus size runway models, which is apparently the kind of shit plus-sized models in Toronto have to deal with.

According to Kevin Naulls, who’s covering Toronto fashion week for the Toronto Standard, “the prevailing attitude toward ‘plus-size’ … in Toronto sucks.” Naulls recently attended a show intended as a showcase for plus-size fashion in Canada, put on by an awesome company called Allistyle.
“Except, for some of the front row at this packed show, it was a joke. One gentleman spent the entire show laughing and hiding his face from the photo pit with his line sheet, while others exchanged barbs privately and cackled audibly. Even four different people were overheard talking about how poorly the women walked because they were bigger women on high heels.
Why is (fashion show decorum) so militantly followed at all other shows, but when a woman who is a size 12 is sent down the runway, all bets are off?”

I couldn't believe it when I read the headline. My biggest question is why did these people go to a plus size fashion show????? If they didn't want to see or don't like plus size women, why go??? It makes me sad to see people go out their way to ridicule others. It did make me happy to see the models keep the show going and not letting insults break them down.

The people that acted that way most likely has major issues within themselves. That is something they definitely need to work on. Like my mom always said, If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say nothing at all.

  1. Wow, I cannot imagine. The only plus size fashion show I've ever attended (my first, but not my last) everyone was excited, there was an electricity in the air and the vibe was amazing. I'm so sorry these models experienced this. So very uncouth on the part of the laughing audience members.
