The Cost of Plus Size Clothes

So I was surfing the web to find a hot plus size item to feature on my blog. I did see some nice things, but their prices were outrageous. So that lead me to frustration and thinking about why does plus size clothes have to be so expensive?

I've always known that usually plus size clothes are a little more expensive because they use more material. However, why should we be penalized by paying more or buying clothes we don't like because its cheaper. I understand designers and stores have to make a profit but paying $100 for a pair of jeans or $70 for a shirt is way beyond my budget. I want my blog to reflect the average working woman. As a mother with three children, I cant afford to pay that much for one item. I wouldn't want to put anything on my blog that I could no afford myself.

As a new or unknown designer, I agree you have to charge more to generate more of an income. I'm not mad at that BUT at least make your prices a little more reasonable. Not all stores that carry plus size clothing has trendy and fashionable plus size clothing. I don't want to wear the same clothes as my grandmother. That just means if more designers got their clothing lines in more local stores and boutiques, that may not have to charge as much.

Hopefully in the the future I wont have to worry about a price tag but until then I will only post hot items that are reasonably priced. Tune in every Wednesday for my hot plus size item.

  1. We have more options than we did 10 years ago, but I agree it would be nice to have something more affordable. Still, I would rather have something that is expensive that I know will last a long while than something that is super cheap that is going to get destroyed in the first wash. Unfortunately, some companies charge a lot for things that are going to fall apart fast. It's disappointing and scary to know who to order from.
